Greetings Band Parents and Mac Band Supporters,

NWAPA Fall Classic Marching Band Competition – Linfield University
The bands first competition will be this coming Saturday, October 2, at Linfield University right here in Mac!!!  This volunteer signup sheet has been created for those who are able to help out.  Volunteer opportunities include: Canopy/tent set up, helping the front ensemble get equipment on and off the field, loading the trailer, and helping serve dinner.

Front Ensemble Volunteers Dry Run – Thursday Practice
If you sign up to help the front ensemble for the competition on Saturday, this Thursday, September 30, the band will be practicing a few dry runs of getting on and off the field.  Please come to practice on Thursday so that we are better prepared for Saturday.  The band will be on Baker Field at 7:00pm.  If you’re unable to make it Thursday, please don’t let this deter you from signing up to help.  Several parents from previous competition years will be available to help you on Saturday.

Competition Information
At this time, band members are expected to be at Linfield by 11:30.  If this time changes, Mr. Barton will most likely use the Remind App or tell the kids at school this week.  They are to bring their own lunch.  Snacks and water will also be available throughout the day, however.  Dinner will be provided by the Band Parent Organization for band members and all volunteers at approximately 4:30.  At this time, the menu will be hamburgers.  Gluten free, vegetarian and vegan options will also be available based on reported dietary needs by the students.  If there are other dietary concerns or allergies that were not reported by your favorite band member, please have him or her let Mr. Barton know so he can relay the information.  The competition will wrap up with the awards ceremony, which is scheduled to start at 8:45pm.

March-a-Thon Recap
The march-a-thon this past Saturday was a success.  Several people walked out of their homes to enjoy the music as the band marched from Cowl Street to the Oregon Mutual parking lot.  A big thank you to those who helped load equipment and being there to support the band.

Upcoming Events
We will have another pregame tailgate party on October 7 where we will also invite band member alumni. The alumni will have the opportunity to play music in the stands during the game as well. It’s fun to watch who still has all the music memorized. More info to come in future e-mails.

Unfortunately, the Mac Band will NOT be performing in Grants Pass at the Pride of the Northwest Marching Competition this fall.  This event is always a highlight of the season and we will miss the outstanding hospitality.  However, The band WILL still be competing on that same weekend.  We will be heading over to Hillsboro Stadium for the Liberty Marching Arts Challenge. To view future events and to get more familiar with the competitions you can go to the Northwest Association Performing Arts Website.  The current events tab on the website shows information for the upcoming competitions.  The MacBand website calendar is also a good resource to see what’s on the horizon for the band.

Where to Pay Band Fees
Band fees are to be paid directly to the High School. The fee for this year is $200. NOTE: Students who have been with the band program for a while, may have a credit towards this year’s fee. Please check with the bookkeeper at the high school.

See you at Linfield,
Owen Andrus
