News – June 16, 2019

Greetings Band Parents and Mac Band Supporters,

At our most recent Band Parent Meeting (last Tuesday), we covered a lot of topics and thanks to Roxane keeping track of the discussion, you can read the Meeting Minutes here.

Just for fun, I looked through some of the weekly emails over the past year and it’s interesting to see just how much can happen. Here’s a list of some of the accomplishments for the band since last summer – all of which were made possible by an outstanding Director, talented instructors, students willing to put in the effort, and the continuing support of all the band parents.

Had a 100 member Marching Band – the first time with a Front Ensemble

Had a smoky Band Camp at Patton, but managed to make it through

Got new canopies, generator, trailer shelving, & front ensemble equipment

Had a fantastic tailgate party to start the season

Finally got new stop signs at 17th and Evans

Marching Band competed at 4 events including their first trip to the Championships

Visual Ensemble received High Auxiliary Award at Grants Pass

First ever Winter Percussion consistently improved and scored over 70 at Championships

Winter Guard scored consistently in top 3 and took 2nd in Championships

Added in a group of enthusiastic 8th graders for the Starlight Parade

Raised over $10,000

To be absolutely clear, this is NOT Band Camp, but the Summer Music Camp that is put on by the school district for kids entering grades 3 through 12 to try out different instruments and explore more about music. After laying low last year because of the high school construction, the music camp is returning this year and will be held at Patton Middle School.

There will also be an opportunity for Middle and High School band students to work with Mr. Barton at this camp. Registration is due be this Friday, June 21st. Click the link for Music Camp Registration
