News – November 4, 2018

Greetings Band Parents and Mac Band Supporters,

The Jazz Band was up early last Wednesday waking up the High School with a lively performance in the Food Court. I’ve only had a couple of chances to hear them so far this year and this group is really sounding great with a fun set of upbeat tunes. You can catch them in concert on Monday, November 19th.

Then on Wednesday afternoon, the Marching Band hit the road. Their first stop was at Sue Buel Elementary where they performed to an enthusiastic audience (who, by the way, had just raised over $7500 at their Jog-a-thon. Way to go Huskies!)

Then the band quickly loaded up the instruments, jumped aboard the buses and headed over the Duniway. Another tight squeeze for the band but they managed to get in a few of their signature moves.

New Stop Signs Coming
Thanks to David Barton and Mark Hinthorn from the High School and Kami Wieand, tireless high school band parent, there will soon be new stop signs at the intersection of NE Evans and 17th Street! A bit too late for this season, but it will be a safer crossing for the band next year and for all the other students who use this crosswalk every day. A special Thanks to Patricia Manson who showed up at every rehearsal this year to help the kids cross safely.

Here are the highlights of the traffic changes:

·         Adding two new stop signs for north and south bound traffic on Evans.  This will convert the intersection into a four way stop.

·         Making all four “STOP” signs oversized 30” signs with the “4 Way Stop” placard

·         Placing “STOP” legend pavement markings on all four legs of this intersection

·         Working with McMinnville Water and Light to assess and upgrade if necessary the adjacent street lighting.

·         Placing temporary “Traffic Control Change Ahead” Signage for 30 days after installation to remind motorists of the changes
