Greetings Band Parents and Mac Band Supporters,

Our next Band Parent Meeting is this Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. in the high school library. We’ll be talking about the upcoming tailgate party and you’ll learn about what happens at the marching competitions. We’ll even throw in some breakout sessions to make plans for these quickly approaching events. I hope to see you there!

The View from the Scaffold
I haven’t had many chances lately to stop by and see how the marching show has been going, so I decided to duck out of work for a bit on Saturday morning to check it out. From up on the scaffolding, I got a great view of how the forms are taking shape and got a feel for how good the band is going to sound as all the parts come together. It should be a great show!

The kids have really been working hard and Mr. Barton has an open invitation for parents to stop by and watch the rehearsals.

March-a-thon Update
There is now a new and improved plan for the March-a-thon. On Saturday, September 28th, the band will rehearse as usual and then, beginning about noon, will take to the streets and march downtown. When they get to the Oregon Mutual parking lot, they will perform for the community (about 12:30 p.m.) After the show, they will march back to the high school and disband for the afternoon. Then at 6:00 p.m. in the evening, they will perform the full show at Wortman Stadium for parents and families.

It would be fantastic to have a large crowd at the OMI lot, so spread the word and tell everyone you know to come out and hear the band.

And keep those kids collecting pledges. Here’s the link to the March-a-thon Form.

Bottle Bags and Tags

Keep on the lookout for a bottles and cans collection event in the near future, in the meantime there are blue Bottle Drop bags and labels available at Incahoots (905 NE Baker Street.) Feel free to drop by and grab what you need.

And remember, you don’t have to wait for any specific event to take them to a Bottle Drop Redemption Center. They let us drop off up to ten bags a day without an appointment – just scan the label, the door opens up and you drop them inside. It’s quick, easy, and only smells a little like old beer.

Need a Reed?
Save yourself a trip out of town and check out the Vortex’s selection of musical instrument accessories. The Vortex (in downtown McMinnville) is a long time supporter of music education in McMinnville and last spring began offering music accessories as a service to local players. They have expanded their selection over the summer to include more woodwind, brass, percussion, and guitar supplies. Please keep them in mind when your budding musician splits their last reed!
