Born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, Robert Cameron moved to Cypress, Texas in 1997. Mr. Cameron graduated from Cy-Fair High School in May of 2000. During his time there he participated in the Cy-Fair Band, under the direction of Mark Veenstra (Cy-Fair - CFISD), Frank Troyka (Berkner – RISD), and Shirley Holstein (Cy-Creek – CFISD). Mr. Cameron served as the Alto Saxophone section leader during the 1998-99 marching season and the Low Reed section leader during the 1999-2000 marching season. He was a saxophone student of Bob Chreste, assistant band director at Berkner High School (RISD), Cedar Park High School (LISD).
After High School, Robert Cameron was accepted to Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, TX. At SHSU, he was a member of the Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Mr. Matthew McInturf, President of the Texas Bandmasters Association (2004); a member of the Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Rodney Cannon, Paul English, and Dr. Scott Plugge; and a member/asst. section leader (2002)/section leader (2003)/student assistant (2004) to the SHSU Bearkat Marching Band. At Sam Houston, his private saxophone study was under Dr. Scott Plugge, Assistant Chair to the School of Music, as well as Director of Graduate Studies and Director of Jazz Studies. Robert Cameron is a 3rd generation Marcel Mule student in the area of saxophone pedagogy, During his time at Sam Houston, Robert Cameron was a finalist and winner of the Sam Houston Honors Recital.
Mr. Cameron completed his student teaching at Cy-Springs High School (CFISD), under the direction of Russell Holcombe, Jon Nelson, and Justin Smith. During his time at Cy-Springs, Mr. Cameron coached the first saxophone quartet in the schools history to compete and win the Cy-Spring Solo & Ensemble Recital.
Upon his graduation from Sam Houston State University in May of 2005, Mr. Cameron accepted current employment at MacArthur High School. Mr. Cameron is the current Concert Band Director and Co-Jazz Band Director with Mr. John Goforth. When Mr. Cameron is not teaching full concert band, woodwind ensemble, or brass ensemble classes, he enjoys coaching saxophone quartets of all skill levels.
